Every year, we organize a simulation for students of the UN General Assembly, the UN Security Council, the European Council, and the World Trade Organization at the finest locations of the University of Antwerp. The concept of Model United Nations is used all around the world, and is the perfect way to overall strengthen your skills. Next to our main event, our Secundary school project organizes a MUN for high school students of Antwerp. We highly value supporting young people to debate and engage with global affairs, for which we feel the MUN is the perfect tool.
During the year, we set up smaller events in the form of lectures, workshops, debating groups etc. Prominent speakers, vivid debating sessions and interesting workshops are waiting for you. Collaborations with other Student Associations allow us to have a broad scope, and for our members to think outside the box. Check our calendar to see what is going on.
Participating in a simulation offers you a great opportunity to meet new people and to build an international network. At every event, there will be plenty of time to get to know your fellow participants and meet like-minded people. Every evening a social event is organized during the main event itself, allowing you to blow off some steam after a day of negotiations. The quiz and gala ensure memories and friendships which will last a lifetime.
"AntwerpMUN has been my second international simulation. It has been a mix of happiness, learning, severity and fun. The strict (but sometimes ironic) chairs made us learn discipline and rules which run such international organizations. The MunTeam was very professional, even when we push them to frantically transport messages between delegates: everybody knows that negotiations require also good postmen. The other delegates: among them I have found beautiful people who will probably remain my friends for the rest of my life."
"When I applied for the MUN 2015, I was unenthusiastic: I did it by chance, a friend of mine persuaded me and, after all, the topic concerned my field of study, so I decided that I had nothing to loose.
Then I received my letter of acceptance and, following my personality, I decided that I had to change my mood to make profit from this experience.
At first, I did some research for my position paper and I had to learn how to "balance my sources": indeed, I am used to being a disapproving person, while this time I had to support my usual "enemy", i.e. the Government.
In any case, the real experience started when I dressed up and I started pretending to be a diplomat. During the first day, I felt inept and out of place, but then you learn how to join the role and everything works perfectly.
Besides, you start to know new people, to send secret messages from one side of the room to the other (risking to create dangerous diplomatic incidents), to take part in amazing evening events. At the end, you are part of a strange community made up of every kind of individuals and that perhaps will be close to you forever."
"In this young MUN the balance between experience and fresh enthousiasm is great. In my first year I learned a lot by observing and talking to much experienced delegates. As I grew it got to be ever greater, to give dramatic speeches and working on the content of the eventual agreement. In my last year, being the more experienced one, I hope to have been an inspiration to the 'rookies' to take part again and become a real MUNstar."
"After my participation in the AntwerpMUN simulation, I joined the AntwerpMUN team to deliver the same joy and pleasure to this year's participants. AntwerpMUN is an unforgettable experience that every student has to meet with."
"A friend of mine told me about Antwerp MUN and convinced me to participate as well. When I think about Antwerp MUN 2016, all the great memories, jokes, strong speeches and new friendships come to mind. It was quite intense (the four days were filled until the evening), but I enjoyed every moment (especially the Gala, that showed that some delegates can have heavy debates on the dance floor). The fact that I’m now studying diplomacy says enough: don’t hesitate and have the greatest debating experience here in Antwerp!"
"The participants and the organization in AntwerpMUN were highly professional, making everyone feel comfortable enough to engage in discussion. I highly recommend participating in AntwerpMUN, in order to develop your public speaking and negotiating skills, while also making many friends from many different nations!"
